With tensions rising between Team Rocket and the League, the crime syndicate found itself taking extra precautions during its regular operations. Sometimes that meant additional muscle to escort a shipment of illegally obtained Pokémon along a smuggling route; sometimes that meant taking an alternate route altogether.[break][break]

And sometimes, it meant eliminating the threat directly.[break][break]

Lately, a pair of vigilantes had been interrupting smuggling routes, particularly the ones moving shipments of rare Paldean Pokémon. Zev had already removed one of them from the picture with the help of another grunt, but the second had eluded Team Rocket.[break][break]

Until now.[break][break]

Perched on a rooftop, Zev peered down at the building across the street, an apartment complex that had seen better days. At such a late hour, most windows were already dark, indicating that the occupants of those apartments were fast asleep — including the one housing their target.[break][break]

"Intel says he's armed, and that his team is primarily Psychic-types," Zev said in a low voice to his associate, a young grunt named Gerald Kaiser.[break][break]

Despite his age, the boy had been recommended to Zev by Isaac Merlo for S.P.E.C.T.R.A. Of course, the Beast wished to see Gerald in action for himself, to assess just how suitable he was for such an elite initiative.[break][break]

Zev released his Cofagrigus from a Pokéball. "Be prepared for an attack as soon as we teleport into the room we can see through the window."
